The effects of repeated passage of vehicles in traffic lanes on the bulk density and resistance to penetration of a heavy loam sandy soil

, : The effects of repeated passage of vehicles in traffic lanes on the bulk density and resistance to penetration of a heavy loam sandy soil. Archiv fur Acker und Pflanzenbau und Bodenkunde 31(9): 573-581

The experiment was conducted on an Albic Luvisol, between 1982-1985, in prepared traffic lanes. Repeated passage of vehicles with different contact pressures and wheel loads (100 kPa/17kN, 300kPA/34kN and 500 kPa/300kN) significantly increased topsoil bulk density (0.25 to 0.35 g.cm-3). Penetration of plant roots (winter wheat, fodder maize and oats) was prevented in the topsoil but in the subsoil it varied with the contact pressure and wheel load.
