An analysis of some factors determining the sporozoite rates, human blood indexes, and biting rates of members of the Anopheles punctulatus complex in Papua New Guinea

, : An analysis of some factors determining the sporozoite rates, human blood indexes, and biting rates of members of the Anopheles punctulatus complex in Papua New Guinea. American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene 40(3): 229-234

In 9 villages in Madang Province, Papua New Guinea, sporozoite antigen positivity rate (SR) for Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax, and human blood index (HBI) for 3 malaria vectors varied as follows: Anopheles faranti SR 0-2.7, HBI 0-0.45; An. koliensis SR 0.21-2.34, HBI 0-0.85; An. punctulatus SR 0.33-3.33, HBI 0.20-1.00. Variations in HBI partly explain the variations in SR.

Parathyroidectomized rats respond to small doses of parathormone by a significant elevation of the serum alkaline phosphatase.
