Computer assisted tomographic studies on stem discs from trees of the genera Aesculus, Quercus, Betula and Tilia

, : Computer assisted tomographic studies on stem discs from trees of the genera Aesculus, Quercus, Betula and Tilia. Gartenamt 39(2): 69-80

A description is given of computer assisted tomography, the only completely non-destructive method of assessing internal damage to standing trees. Tomograms of stem discs of Aesculus, Quercus, Betula and Tilia were in close agreement with visual assessments of the discs, with fungal damage and frost cracks represented. However, the features represented by different colours varied with genus.
