Destruction of the forest floor by modern skidding technology, and possibilities of countering it

, : Destruction of the forest floor by modern skidding technology, and possibilities of countering it. Allgemeine Forstzeitschrift (40-41): 1083-1085

The serious damage to the soil caused by modern skidders is discussed, and four measures to counter it are outlined: repair of the skidding trails on soils with better carrying capacity; use of wide low-pressure tyres; combination of horses with tractors for skidding; and using site information to determine the permitted method and time of skidding.
