Goat meat production in Indonesia

, : Goat meat production in Indonesia. International Development Research Centre (IDRC-268e): 135-139

Indonesia has the largest goat population among the countries of Southeast Asia. The two most important breeds are Kacang and Etawah. Goats are primarily raised for meat production on small farms. The contribution of goat meat to the total meat supply of Indonesia is 6%-7%, with over 4 million goats slaughtered per year. There is a ready market for live goats and their transport is relatively easy. The marketing of fresh meat in open markets could be improved to increase the demand for meat.
