Improved developing country productivity and international trade: complementary or competitive?

, : Improved developing country productivity and international trade: complementary or competitive?. Agricultural prospects and challenges in developing countries: 10-16

The assumption is questioned that the only way for a developing country to obtain food self-sufficiency is to improve its food production. The growth effects of technological change can increase the demand for food more than increased agricultural production. It is argued, as well, that an increase in food production does not necessarily mean a better-nourished population. Countries must choose policies that best suit their needs.
