Opportunities for savings with prereformers

, : Opportunities for savings with prereformers. Ammonia plant safety and related facilities Vol 28: 99-106

The modern ammonia plant relies on a conventional primary reformer wherein large quantities of energy are inefficiently transferred to the process with high thermodynamic driving forces. The process thermal efficiency rarely exceeds 50%. In modern designs this influency is reduced by transferring a greater portion of the reforming duty to a secondary reformer.
