Regenerative capacity of aspen following damage

, : Regenerative capacity of aspen following damage. Lesovedenie i Lesnoe Khozyaistvo (21): 110-112

Young aspen trees were trimmed back to the stem or cut back to the stump on various dates from 24 March to 4 Aug. 1984 and regenerative capacity analysed. A rapid decrease in capacity was observed after the end of March falling to less than 3% for June cutting. Thus, trees damaged by browsing or cut for young branch fodder need to be left untouched before the growing season or no later than the first half of May.
