Relationship between populations of the wheat brown rust pathogen in the USSR and its significance for breeding

, : Relationship between populations of the wheat brown rust pathogen in the USSR and its significance for breeding. Sbornik Nauchnykh Trudov po Prikladnoi Botanike, Genetike i Selektsii 110: 12-18

On the basis of studies of the virulence genes in Puccinia recondita populations in the USSR during 1975-80, it is concluded that populations from the main centres (European Russia, northern Kazakhstan and western Siberia) are related and represent a single epidemiological region, distinct from that of Soviet Central Asia and the Soviet Far East. Breeding strategies need to be formulated accordingly.
