Shrinkage and swelling of wood of Pinus nigra

, : Shrinkage and swelling of wood of Pinus nigra. Gorsko Stopanstvo Gorska Promishlenost 43(11): 14-16

Samples of sapwood and heartwood of P. nigra growing in natural stands at 4 different sites in Bulgaria were tested to determine their shrinkage and swelling (radial, tangential, volumetric). The results show that the site conditions have a significant influence on wood shrinkage and swelling. Wood density and ring width do not exert a direct influence on shrinkage and swelling, but the percentage of latewood does have an effect. The results confirm earlier findings.
