Treatment of acute gastroenteritis in children in the Netherlands

, : Treatment of acute gastroenteritis in children in the Netherlands. Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde 133(19): 974-978

A representative sample of Dutch general practitioners (GPs) and paediatricians, 244 and 40, were surveyed by questionnaire or interview. As initial treatment for children, from under 6 months to between 6 and 12 years old, with acute gastroenteritis less than 40% of GPs and 95% of paediatricians chose oral rehydration solution. Medication was prescribed by nearly 25% of GPs, but seldom or never by paediatricians.
