Use of specific strains of Pseudomonas fluorescens to improve the growth of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and to give protection against Rhizoctonia sp

, : Use of specific strains of Pseudomonas fluorescens to improve the growth of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and to give protection against Rhizoctonia sp. Mededelingen van de Faculteit Landbouwwetenschappen, Rijksuniversiteit Gent 54(2b): 601-609

In greenhouse tests, treatment of P. vulgaris seeds with various strs of P. fluorescens or P. putida isolated from the rhizosphere of P. vulgaris showed that some strs increased plant growth and yield, others gave protection against Rhizoctonia damping off, and others showed a double effect. However, the rhizosphere population of strs marked with resistance to the antibiotic nalidixic acid had decreased markedly by 1 month after seed treatment.
