A geographically-based land use suitability assessment and land capability classification

, : A geographically-based land use suitability assessment and land capability classification. Hydrology and Water Resources in Arizona and the Southwest 20: 51-62

A methodology for land use suitability assessment and land capability classification is described, based on estimated soil loss using the modified Universal Soil Loss Equation (MUSLE), with the aid of a geographical information system (GIS). A 65 000 ha watershed in the Philippines was divided into 10 ha cells, and data overlays, such as slope, soil, elevation and land use information were used to estimate soil erosion, land capability and land use suitability for each cell.
