A growth model for fibre diameter in two muscles in the pig

, : A growth model for fibre diameter in two muscles in the pig. Archiv fur Tierzucht 34(1): 57-62

The diameter of oxidative and glycolytic fibres was measured on semitendinosus and longissimus dorsi muscle samples from 150 pigs slaughtered at 3-wk intervals from 5 to 35 wk of age. Growth curves were fitted using the hyperbolic tangential function y = b0 + b1.tanh+ b4.tanh where y is fibre diameter, x is age, and the b values are curve parameters. In both muscles, fibre diameter increased curvilinearly with age.
