Ammonia-treated wheat straw in feeding of ruminants. 1. Composition, digestibility and nutritive value

, : Ammonia-treated wheat straw in feeding of ruminants. 1. Composition, digestibility and nutritive value. Radovi Poljoprivrednog Fakulteta Univerziteta u Sarajevu 38(42): 117-130

Wheat straw was treated with anhydrous ammonia at 3% and heated at temperatures up to 95 degrees C for 24 h. The content of total nitrogen (crude protein) increased two-fold compared with that of untreated straw. Digestibility, estimated in sheep given the treated straw as the only feed, of DM was 56.2, organic matter 59.1, crude protein 30.5, crude fat 49.0, crude fibre 71.0 and nitrogen-free extract 51.9%.
