Beekeeping in Venezuela

, : Beekeeping in Venezuela. The "African" honey bee: 399-411

In 1976 about 50 000 (European) honey bee colonies were kept in hives, which were mostly primitive; total honey production was 530 t, of which 323 t were exported. As Africanized bees spread through the country (1975-81), most hobby beekeepers gave up their colonies and commercial holdings were greatly reduced; by 1981 total production was only 88 t, but there has since been a recovery (480 t in 1985).
