The effectiveness of the phytoseiid predator Phytoseiulus persimilis against Tetranychus urticae on strawberry (cv. Selva) was investigated in a greenhouse in the Metapontum area of Italy in 1988-89. Releases of the predator were made on 2 December 1988 when there were 2.39 adults of T. urticae per leaf, and again on 15 February 1989. P. persimilis gave satisfactory control of the pest without the need for chemical intervention.
