Chemosensitivity of malaria in children from Pointe-Noire, Congo, in the first semester of 1986

, : Chemosensitivity of malaria in children from Pointe-Noire, Congo, in the first semester of 1986. Bulletin de la Societe de Pathologie Exotique et de ses Filiales 80(3 bis): 417-425

Forty-four strains of Plasmodium falciparum isolated from children at Pointe-Noire, Congo, were tested by an isotopic microtest in vitro for drug resistance. A high level of chloroquine resistance was demonstrated. Fifteen isolates were also resistant to monodesethylamodiaquine (MDAQ) and there was a close correlation between the IC50 of chloroquine and MDAQ. Three isolates were resistant to quinine but none to halofantrine.
