Prestarter/starter diets given to 4 groups of young cattle from 26 until 120 days old contained 41/63, 34.5/54.5, 17.5/41 and 22/44.5% ground barley, 36/16, 20/0, 20/0 and 20/0% soyabean meal, 0/0, 22.5/22.5, 0/0 and 0/0% rapeseed meal, 0/0, 0/0, 39.5/34 and 0/0% ground yellow peas, and 0/0, 0/0, 0/0 and 35/30.5% ground horse beans. In the prestarter period, calves were given whole milk, to 40 days old, skim milk from 41 to 60 days, and concentrate to 80 days.
