Forest improvements and afforestation in Algeria

, : Forest improvements and afforestation in Algeria. Monti e Boschi 41(2): 19-24

A description of reforestation projects in degraded steppe and matorral zones on the southern slopes of the Atlas mountains in Algeria. In steppe areas (1200-1350 m altitude) Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) has been widely planted in holes 40 cmsuperscript 3 at densities of 2000-2500/ha. Survival has been >70%, with annual height increment of >20 cm. Areas suitable for Aleppo pine afforestation are judged to be those in which Rosmarinus tournefortii is present.
