Histopathological studies in buffalo calves fed with paddy straw

, : Histopathological studies in buffalo calves fed with paddy straw. Indian Journal of Animal Sciences 61(5): 482-487

Pathological studies were made on 5 male Murrah buffalo calves after experimental induction of chronic alkaline indigestion by ad lib. feeding of paddy stray. Significant histopathological changes were atrophy of ruminal mucosa and intestinal villi, and nephrotic changes in tubular epithelial cell with marked glomerular atrophy. A well-marked atrophy was also observed in red pulp of spleen, acini and lobuli of pancreas, seminiferous tubules of testes, skeletal and cardiac muscle fibres and zona glomerulosa region of adrenal gland. Correlation of histopathological alterations with the functional activity of these organs in chronic alkaline indigestion is discussed.
