Lactoferrin content in feces in ileostomy-operated children fed human milk

, : Lactoferrin content in feces in ileostomy-operated children fed human milk. Milk proteins: nutritional, clinical, functional and technological aspects: 72-75

Lactoferrin contents of faeces of infants given human milk were measured. Although 10-25% of the total protein content of human milk comprises lactoferrin, its role in defence against gastrointestinal infection may be more important than its nutritional role. 17 infants with gastrointestinal diseases for which surgery had been required were studied, including 8 ileostomy and 3 colostomy cases.
