Manganese levels in a jaundiced long-term total parenteral nutrition patient: potentiation of haloperidol toxicity? Case report and literature review

, : Manganese levels in a jaundiced long-term total parenteral nutrition patient: potentiation of haloperidol toxicity? Case report and literature review. Jpen. Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition 14(4): 428-430

When oral intake of manganese is precluded, the recommended parenteral supplementation is 0.15 to 0.8 mg daily. Mn is excreted primarily in the bile; during cholestasis, serum Mn may rise, and Mn toxicity ensue. Neuropsychiatric symptoms are prominent. Phenothiazine-derivative drugs may potentiate Mn toxicity.
