Recurrent episodes of fever in an African child; difficulties in diagnosing trypanosomiasis in France

, : Recurrent episodes of fever in an African child; difficulties in diagnosing trypanosomiasis in France. Pediatrie Lyon 47(3): 179-183

A detailed case history of misdiagnosed trypanosomiasis in a child who emigrated from southern Angola to France at the age of 29 months, was first seen in hospital at the age of 33 months and diagnosed as suffering from African trypanosomiasis at the meningo-encephalitic stage, when over 4 years old, after numerous admissions to hospital for fever, adenopathies, bronchitis etc. Developing astheny and drowsiness and encephalographic abnormalities prompted CSF analysis.
