Structural change in composition of foodgrains production

, : Structural change in composition of foodgrains production. Economic and Political Weekly 26(13): A-39-A-43

The Green Revolution in India has apparently produced spectacular results in terms of wheat productivity but has failed to improve the yields of inferior food crops such as chickpea and sorghum. The result is that food crop prices have been distorted leading, in turn, to an imbalanced cropping pattern. This paper examines the validity of these results of the new technology by estimating linear trend equations for the production of major food crops between 1950/51 and 1984/85.
