Studies on low cost honey bee hives in Pakistan

, : Studies on low cost honey bee hives in Pakistan. Bee keeping in the year 2000 Proceedings of the Second Australian and International Beekeeping Congress, Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, July 21-26, 1988: 229-231

Brood chambers, shallow supers and outer covers were constructed from various mixtures of clay, wheat straw, mud stone, cement, sand, newspapers, wheat flour, dry agave leaves, rice husks and rice husk ash, mixed with water to form a stiff paste which then hardened. The dimensions of the hive parts approximated to those of Langstroth hives, and the hives were used successfully for both Apis cerana and A. mellifera.
