Study of faecal fats. The steatocrit and other simple methods used in clinical practice

, : Study of faecal fats. The steatocrit and other simple methods used in clinical practice. Revista Italiana di Pediatria 17(2): 173-177

New, simple methods of estimating faecal fats in the evaluation of lipid malabsorption or maldigestion as alterations to the standard quantitative method of Van de Kramer which is different to execute, are reviewed. The rapid triacylglycerol absorption test, the breath test based on absorption of marked triolein, microscopic evaluation of faeces stained with Sudan III and the steatocrit test are discussed.
