Hungary is a country rich in thermal resources, with some four-fifths of the area having some kind of spa or thermal well. The number of springs and boreholes with a temperature of over 30 degrees C exceeds one thousand, of which some 440 serve the health and bathing needs of visitors. Bathing customs date back to the Roman and Turkish periods and the activity generates a large amount of income.
