Wood density of beech in stands in Berlin and north Poland

, : Wood density of beech in stands in Berlin and north Poland. Forstarchiv 61(1): 6-10

Cores were sampled from 15 trees in each of 6 forest stands of beech in Berlin and 13 stands in N. Poland (92-153 yr old). Wood density was measured by a standard hydrostatic (buoyancy) method, by a water immersion method, and by the Pilodyn instrument. Data from the first two methods were very closely correlated within most stands, but did not give complete agreement for stand means; the Pilodyn measurements depended greatly on the time of sampling.
