A new method to assess the level of resistance of oaks to mistletoe

, : A new method to assess the level of resistance of oaks to mistletoe. Proceedings of the 5th international symposium of parasitic weeds, Nairobi, Kenya, 24-30 June 1991: 525-526

Studies were carried out on branches from parasitized and non-parasitized individuals of Quercus robur, Q. rubra and Q. petraea to develop a rapid method for assessment of the degree of resistance to mistletoe (Viscum album). It was found that the cortex thickness, the density of phenolic cells, the thickness of the first clusters of fibres and the thickness of the collenchyma are anatomical features which are highly involved in the resistance of oaks to mistletoe.
