A self-fed monensin-containing energy supplement for stocker cattle grazing wheat pasture

, : A self-fed monensin-containing energy supplement for stocker cattle grazing wheat pasture. Animal Science Research Report, Agricultural Experiment Station, Oklahoma State University (MP-136): 301-306

In a 120-day trial, 71 steers grazed wheat pasture of which 33 had access to an energy supplement containing monensin 75 mg/1b. Mean daily intake of supplement and monensin was 4.07 1b and 306 mg/head on one pasture compared 2.42 1b and 181 mg/head on a second. Weight gain was increased about 0.5 1b/day by the supplement. Apparent supplement conversion was 6.75 1b of supplement per 1 lb of increased gain.
