A stochastic model for the assessment of the environmental risks that could result from the use of biotechnological processes and methods is developed. It assumes that the process can be represented by a Markov chain with four states and eight transition probabilities. A computer simulation program based on the model is developed to generate the model results. These results supported the model assumptions and the validity and usefulness of the model.
