Agriculture and fertilizer use in Japan

, : Agriculture and fertilizer use in Japan. Proceedings: balanced fertilizer situation report China, Beijing, P R China, January 9, 1991: 174-185

The relative importance of agriculture to the Japanese economy has steadily declined over the last three decades. Today rice is the only cereal crop fully supplied by domestic production. The large population on limited land ensured rapid increases in the use of mineral fertilizers up to the late 1970s when usage levelled off. With increasing fertilizer consumption, there has been a change from straight to NPK fertilizers.
