Analysis of complementary feeding programme participation: a milk-cereal mix for preschoolers

, : Analysis of complementary feeding programme participation: a milk-cereal mix for preschoolers. Food and Nutrition Bulletin 13(3): 179-189

A study was carried out in Santiago, Chile to assess the demand among poor households for milk-cereal, which is a supplementary food for pre-school children, introduced in 1975. The survey population comprised 215 infants aged 1 year and 785 children aged 2-5 years. Participation in the milk-cereal programme was over 80% in the lower income deciles. Although the milk cereal is a take-home product, it was consumed mainly by the pre-school children, with little 'leakage' to other family members.
