Martin, N.B., 1992: Analysis of the potential for competition in macadamia nut production in Sao Paulo and Hawaii. Informacoes Economicas Instituto de Economia Agricola 22(11): 35-41
A comparative study was carried out of macadamia nut production costs in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Hawaii, USA, in 1991/92 and the potential for the new producer (Sao Paulo) to compete with the established producer (Hawaii). The world market for macadamia nuts is also discussed. The results showed that the total production costs to achieve a yield of 5000-7500 kg of nuts per ha in Sao Paulo was approximately 50% of the costs estimated for Hawaii.
