Ascites syndrome in broilers induced by mycotoxin

, : Ascites syndrome in broilers induced by mycotoxin. Chinese Journal of Veterinary Medicine 18(10): 32-33

In the middle of August, 1989, some broilers on a broiler farm in a village of Changli City, Hebei, became sick. They showed depression, pale combs, dyspnoea, difficult breathing, and death. The most prominent lesions were marked ascites and hydropericardium. From the exudates of peritoneal and thoracic cavities, pericardial and air sacs, large numbers of spores of Aspergillus fumigatus were obtained on cultivation with Sabouraud's agar.
