Biological control at the crossroads

The relative merits of biological and chemical pest control methods are considered. The complexities of dealing with living organisms give an advantage to the more predictable chemical methods but popular feeling against the use of chemicals favours biological methods. In the Third World, problems of quarantine and storage of the biological agents is a limiting factor.
