Bulblet production in vivo from leaves of Lachenalia (Jacq.)

, : Bulblet production in vivo from leaves of Lachenalia (Jacq.). Acta Horticulturae ( 325): 341-347

Leaves of L. aloides cultivars Aurea and Pearsonii, L. aloides var. quadricolor and L. pallida were cut at or near ground level and planted in pots containing equal parts of peat, perlite and sand. To simulate conditions in growers' fields, pots were placed outside in indirect sunlight. The number of bulblets produced at the base of the explant increased with explant size (i.e. whole vs. half-leaves).
