Crop characteristics and inulin production in chicory

, : Crop characteristics and inulin production in chicory. European Journal of Agronomy 1(2): 99-108

Crop growth, DM partitioning, leaf area development, light interception and DM:radiation quotient in various chicory cultivars were studied in field and glasshouse trials. Variations in root and inulin yields were related to sowing time, sowing density and cultivar. Retarded growth of the first leaves appeared to be a major factor in limiting productivity. Growth of the first leaves was limited by assimilate supply and by low temperatures.
