Crop recoveries and soil residues from nitrogen applied as prills or sprays to boost grain protein concentrations of winter wheat grown for breadmaking

, : Crop recoveries and soil residues from nitrogen applied as prills or sprays to boost grain protein concentrations of winter wheat grown for breadmaking. Aspects of Applied Biology ( 30): 431-434

Residual effects of extra late nitrogen application have been followed in three experiments with breadmaking wheat. Recoveries of extra nitrogen may be similar whether applied as solid NH4NO3 prills or as a urea spray. However, at all sites, soil mineral nitrogen was enhanced more where extra N was applied as solid prills. At one site, soil mineral N contents indicated that 41 and 60% of the extra NH4NO3-N remained in the soil after applications of 90 and 180 kg/ha extra N.
