Cytochemical identification of canine circulating leucocytes parasitized with the gametocyte of Hepatozoon canis

, : Cytochemical identification of canine circulating leucocytes parasitized with the gametocyte of Hepatozoon canis. Journal of Veterinary Medical Science 53(5): 963-965

Prevalence and diagnosis of H. canis in Japan is discussed and a case report of a 3-year-old Shetland sheepdog with earlier diagnosis of Babesia jacobsoni infection is described. Diagnosis of H. canis infection was achieved by examination of peripheral blood smears stained with Wright-Giemsa stain. Monocytosis (increase of monocytes from 11% to 18%) was confirmed.
