Dissimilar morphological destiny of axillary buds and interpolation of vegetative shoots in Borassus flabellifer

, : Dissimilar morphological destiny of axillary buds and interpolation of vegetative shoots in Borassus flabellifer. Phytomorphology 42(3-4): 275-278

Of 9 inflorescence primordia in the crown of a female plant of B. flabellifer in a population at Sayalkudy, Tamil Nadu, India, 4 primordia underwent conversion to form vegetative shoots. The other 5 inflorescence primordia developed normally, bearing flowers and fruits. Conversion of only some of the inflorescence primordia into vegetative shoots and interpolation of these shoots between preceding and succeeding flowering periods represent an unusual combination.
