Extensification programme and organic agriculture. Who profits by it?

, : Extensification programme and organic agriculture. Who profits by it?. Forschungs Report, Ernahrung Landwirtschaft Forsten ( 9): 11-15

From the beginning of the financial year 1989/90, extensive agriculture is being promoted by the EU extensification programme. In practice, only the change of the whole farm to organic production has gained ground. Relinquishing chemical/artificial fertilizers and herbicides may be of financial benefit to farmers, since changeover to organic farming over a 5-year period is subsidized by up to DM 510 per ha.
