Fragmented landscapes in Western Australia

, : Fragmented landscapes in Western Australia. Biological Conservation 64(3): 183-238

This special issue comprises 6 papers presented at the International Association of Landscape Ecology Congress in Ottawa in July 1991. The papers originate from a project to study the effects of habitat fragmentation in 1680 kmsuperscript 2 of the Western Australian wheatbelt, with particular emphasis on the threat to the conservation of biodiversity. Pre-settlement vegetation consisted of woodlands of Eucalyptus salmonophloia, E. loxophleba and E. wandoo on red loam soils, and scrub, heath and thicket on laterite, sand and duplex soils, respectively. The papers focus on ecosystem effects, avifauna, fine scale population processes, and utilization of a fragmented habitat by the kangaroo Macropus robustus.
