Some 438 plants of kiwifruit (A. chinensis Wuzhi, which had survived field transplantation from a set of 578 regenerants from endosperm culture were studied. A sample of these plants was assessed for leaf morphology, growth characteristics, flowering, sex expression, chromosome number and fruit quality characteristics. The chromosome number ranged from 2n = 2x = 58 to 2n = 146 (5x + 1); most were aneuploid. A few triploid plants (2n = 3x = 87) were obtained; none of these were parthenocarpic.
