Global games: entertainment and leisure: women as TV spectators

, : Global games: entertainment and leisure: women as TV spectators. Women, media and sport: challenging gender values: 257-272

Differences between the leisure activities of men and women have been widely acknowledged and this paper examines the global context of women as television spectators. Global trends reveal that women watch more television than men, although men form the majority of the audience for televised sport. Explanations for these patterns are given and it is concluded that these differences can be attributed to the different social responsibilities that women and men hold.
