In 1989 SIDA (Swedish International Development Agency) brought to a close its support for an intergrated rural development project in the Arssi region of Ethiopia. The project had been known by various acronyms, first CADU (Chilalo Agricultural Development Unit), then ARDU (Arssi Agricultural Development Unit), briefly BARDU (Bale/Arssi Agricultural Development Unit), and finally SEAD (South-Eastern Area Development Zone).
