Pollination ecology of Pedicularis punctata Decne. (Scrophulariaceae) in the Kashmir Himalaya

, : Pollination ecology of Pedicularis punctata Decne. (Scrophulariaceae) in the Kashmir Himalaya. Plant Species Biology, 52: 215-223

The nectarless flowers of Pedicularis punctata were pollinated exclusively by Bombus foragers which collected pollen from the concealed anthers by high frequency wing muscle vibrations. The stigma contacted pollen in the bee's cervical area during this behaviour. Workers of B. tunicatus and B. flavothoracicus comprised 95% of pollinators. Pollen foraging fidelity was greatest where diversity of Bombus-pollinated plant species was lowest.
