Pollutant loadings: accuracy criteria for river basin management and water quality assessment

, : Pollutant loadings: accuracy criteria for river basin management and water quality assessment. International Journal of Water Resources Development 9(1): 39-50

The loading concept is widely used to manage the input of deleterious substances. The effectiveness of the target load concept was examined with reference to phosphorus management in the Great Lakes Basin of North America. The accuracy of loadings values drawn from programmes that maintained high standards of analytical quality assurance was questioned. The uncertainty in loading algorithms and concentration data is discussed.
