Stewardship and wealth

, : Stewardship and wealth. Evaluation for sustainable land management in the developing world Volume 2: technical papers IBSRAM proceedings no12-2: 481-490

To be good stewards of natural resources, a modern society's standard of living must be well above the subsistence level. Otherwise, the resource base is continuously depleted to satisfy society's most basic needs, i.e., food and shelter. Sufficient wealth is seldom accumulated from agriculture alone. It must come from a mixed economy of manufacturing and service industries.
